tidbits from my own kids

There’s no life like mom life

Wouldn’t trade it for a thing

My kids made my recent days with these little morsels:

One of our grown girls asked: ‘How does the tea kettle know when it’s time to whistle?’

First I was speechless/stuttering/flubbering trying not to make her feel dumb but then I couldn’t help it, I laughed… pretty hard.

She rewarded me with her own giggle so it was okay:)

She’s growing up in a digital world!

Just like her little brother who caught me reading a newspaper in bed and laughed at me and said ‘What IS that?!’

We’ve been reading the news online for way too long.

My youngest asked what was for dinner and I told him everyone was making their own food this night. So he asked for

suggestions. I said grilled cheese and tomato soup.

‘I don’t know how to make that!’ So I walked him through the steps, assuring him he knew how to butter bread, slice cheese,

assemble the sandwich and cook it on the griddle, plus pour and heat some soup.

He protested some more (he’s 11) so I had no choice….

‘When your oldest brother first made a meal for the entire family, he had to use a dining room chair to reach the stove top and he

couldn’t even read yet!’

It was mac n cheese. Dad was working out of town. I was nursing a newborn and had three other little ones.

I had him bring me the box, walked him through every step including picking out the right measuring utensils…

He went back and forth from me in my rocking lazy boy to the stove/cupboards/fridge/sink and did it all.

Youngest of nine was not impressed He gave me his most judgmental stare as I sat relaxing with my tea and book…

And then he went to the kitchen and poured himself a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with whole milk.

Dinner of champions I guess.

One of our older boys has moved out so I have to make a bit more effort when I want to see him.

The other day I asked him if he’d meet me to help me load up a new dresser off marketplace and he agreed.

We got the job done and after a short visit I said: ‘I better hug you while I have a chance!’

He obliged me, and as he did he said: ‘This is what I came here for’

So I better get back to marketplace and find some more heavy things to buy;)

This is the life!
